Options & Pricing

Salem PowerChoice offers three alternatives to National Grid’s Basic Service. The default program offering is PowerChoice Standard, which includes an additional 15% of your electricity from new renewable energy projects in the New England region, over and above the minimum amount required by state law. As a new participant in Salem PowerChoice, you will be enrolled in PowerChoice Standard unless you choose one of the other options.

Electricity supplier: Salem’s current electricity supplier is Dynegy, which means Dynegy will be listed on your National Grid bill. See an example National Grid bill.

Electricity mix: The Commonwealth of Massachusetts requires that all electricity supply products include a minimum of 49% from renewable energy resources in 2021, 51% in 2022, 59% in 2023, and 62% in 2024. Basic meets this minimum requirement. Standard and Plus exceed this requirement. The program’s electricity supplier is required to provide an energy mix disclosure label that offers details about all of the sources of electricity provided. Visit the Resources page to download the most recent label.

Please note:

Prices for PowerChoice Standard, PowerChoice Plus, and PowerChoice Basic include a $0.001/kWh administration fee. Program prices could increase as a result of a change in law that results in a direct, material increase in costs during the term of the electricity supply agreement. Program prices apply only to the electricity supply portion of your National Grid electricity bill. Delivery charges on your National Grid electricity bill are not affected by the Salem PowerChoice program.

Some large commercial accounts may not be eligible for program pricing at the time of enrollment and may instead be offered market pricing. Visit the FAQ page for more information.
