Your options are as follows. National Grid’s Basic Service prices are below for comparison:

The default program offering is PowerChoice Standard, which includes 100% renewable electricity from a mix of sources, including renewable energy projects in New England and wind projects outside of New England. All new electricity accounts in Salem will be automatically enrolled in PowerChoice Standard, unless they choose a different option or opt out.

PowerChoice Plus offers 100% renewable electricity, all from renewable energy projects in New England.

PowerChoice Basic meets the minimum renewable electricity requirements required by state law, but does not include any additional renewable electricity.

Price $0.11104/kWh for residential, commercial, and industrial accounts
Renewable energy content 100% renewable energy from a mix of sources:

  • 14% from renewable energy projects in New England (MA Class I RECs), required by state law in 2019
  • 5% from renewable energy projects in New England (MA Class I RECs), added voluntarily by the City
  • 81% from wind projects outside of New England (National Wind RECs).

 Price $0.10958/kWh for residential, commercial, and industrial accounts
Renewable energy content Meets minimum Massachusetts renewable energy requirements.

This means:

  • 24.94% is from renewable and alternative energy sources in compliance with 2019 Massachusetts RPS and APS requirements. Includes a required 14% from newer renewable energy projects in New England (MA Class I RECs).
  • 75.06% is generated by a mix of natural gas, nuclear, oil, and other traditional energy sources.

NOTE: Prices for PowerChoice Standard, PowerChoice Plus, and PowerChoice Basic include a $0.001 /kWh administration fee. Program prices could increase as a result of a change in law that results in a direct, material increase in costs during the term of the electricity supply agreement. Program prices apply only to the electricity supply portion of your National Grid electricity bill. Delivery charges on your National Grid electricity bill are not affected by the Salem PowerChoice program.
