Enrollment information

Most electricity customers in Worcester will be AUTOMATICALLY enrolled in the Worcester Community Choice Electricity Aggregation program with their February 2020 meter read. This automatic enrollment model is state law.

If your account is on National Grid’s Basic Service, meaning you have not signed a contract with an electricity supplier, your account will be automatically enrolled. No action is required. In November, you will receive a notification letter in the mail from the City with information about enrollment, program options, and prices, as well as information about how to opt out of the program if you do not wish to participate.

If you have asked National Grid to place a block on your account to prevent enrollment with electricity suppliers, the block will prevent automatic enrollment, even if you receive the notification letter. To participate in the program, you must first ask National Grid to remove the block. Once the block has been removed, you may then request enrollment in the program.

How to recognize the notification letter:

  • The return address on the envelope will include the City seal and the name of the program’s electricity supplier, Direct Energy.
  • The letter itself will include the City seal and the name of Worcester City Manager Edward Augustus at the bottom.

If you have an existing electricity account and a contract with an electricity supplier:

You will not automatically be enrolled, but you may participate in the program. We recommend that you carefully check the terms and conditions of your supplier agreement. Your ability to terminate your agreement with your supplier may be restricted.

If you opt out now and wish to enroll later:

You are not guaranteed the Worcester Community Choice Electricity Aggregation program price. The electricity supplier may charge you a market price.

Participation is not required
