Enroll in Watertown Electricity Choice
New electricity customers in Watertown will be automatically enrolled in Watertown Electricity Choice. This automatic enrollment model is state law, but you can choose to opt out of the program before being enrolled or any time after enrollment with no penalty or fee.
You will receive a letter in the mail from the Town with information about the program before enrollment occurs. How to recognize the letter:
- The return address on the envelope will include the Town seal and the name of the program’s electricity supplier, Direct Energy.
- The letter itself will include the Town seal, the Watertown Electricity Choice name, and Town Manager Michael Driscoll’s name at the bottom.
If you have an existing electricity account and a contract with an electricity supplier, you will not automatically be enrolled, but you may participate in the program. We recommend that you carefully check the terms and conditions of your supplier agreement. Your ability to terminate your agreement with your supplier may be restricted.
If you decide to enroll, be sure your current electricity supplier knows that you wish to cancel your contract with them so they do not renew your relationship with them. If they resubmit your account for enrollment to Eversource, it can interfere with your enrollment in the Watertown Electricity Choice program.
If you previously opted out and now wish to enroll, please note that you may not receive the Watertown Electricity Choice price. The electricity supplier is entitled to charge you a market price for the remainder of the current electricity supply contract, but you would receive Watertown’s price for any future electricity supply contracts.
