Using the group buying power of our community, Nantucket PowerChoice provides Nantucket residents and businesses with several immediate benefits:

Stable electricity prices

Nantucket PowerChoice offers long-term prices for the electricity supply part of your bill. The current prices will end in November, and the program will move to a new 24-month contract with prices that are fixed until November 2026. In comparison, National Grid’s Basic Service prices change every 6 months or less, which exposes you to seasonal spikes in electricity prices. Participating in Nantucket PowerChoice will make your electricity supply price predictable and stable and will protect you from those seasonal price spikes.

Support for local renewable energy investments

Participating in either option in Nantucket PowerChoice provides direct support to the Nantucket Local SOLAR Rebate Program and to the development of new residential solar electricity projects on Nantucket. The program also buys renewable energy certificates (RECs) from the High School wind turbine. By supporting renewable energy projects on Nantucket, you help to reduce Nantucket’s reliance on fossil fuels during peak electricity use periods, which can bring down electricity costs for everyone. Electricity supply choices

Through Nantucket PowerChoice, you have two choices for the electricity supply part of your bill. The PowerChoice Standard option provides the lowest price in the program, and the PowerChoice Green option provides 100% of your electricity from renewable sources.

Consumer protections

Nantucket PowerChoice has been designed with consumer protections. Chief among them, the program has no hidden fees, and you have the freedom to opt out of, or leave, the program at any time with no penalty. This feature makes the program different from many private electricity supply contracts, which may include minimum participation periods and early-termination fees.
