Valley Green Energy prioritizes supporting new renewable energy projects in the New England region to help drive the growth of clean electricity on our local grid.

  • VGE Basic provides the minimum amount of your electricity from new renewable sources required by law, which is 24% in 2024.
  • VGE Standard Green provides an additional 10% of your electricity from new renewable sources in the New England region.
  • VGE 100% Green provides 100% of your electricity from new renewable sources in the New England region.

Buying renewable energy refers to the purchase of renewable energy certificates (RECs). What are RECs?

* In addition to buying RECs from new renewable energy sources in the New England region, Valley Green Energy’s electricity supplier is also required by state law to purchase RECs from other sources, including sources that are not new, are renewable but not clean, such as waste to energy, or are clean but not renewable, such as nuclear. This additional purchase must be made even if the total amount of RECs purchased from either clean or renewable sources exceeds 100% of the electricity used by Valley Green Energy participants.
