Options & Pricing

Your options are as follows:

  1. If you do nothing you will be automatically enrolled in PowerChoice Standard, which is 100% green.
  2. If you want 100% green energy and you also want more of your energy to come from local, New England renewable energy projects, you may choose PowerChoice Plus.
  3. If you want the least expensive option, you may choose PowerChoice Basic. PowerChoice Basic does not include any additional renewable energy.
  4. If you choose to opt out, the supply portion of your National Grid electric bill will be switched to National Grid’s Basic Service rate.

Details below. Please note: These prices apply only to the electricity supply portion of your National Grid electric bill. Delivery charges on your National Grid electric bill are not affected by the Salem PowerChoice program.

78% is generated by wind projects outside of New England.

Renewable energy content 100% green energy with a focus on energy produced in New England. Specifically, PowerChoice Plus increases the amount of electricity from new renewable energy projects in New England (MA Class I RECs) from the minimum 12% required by the state in 2017 to 32%. (“New” renewable energy projects came into operation in 1998 or after.) This means:

20% is generated by new wind projects in New England (MA Class 1 RECs).

58% is generated by wind projects outside New England.

22% is generated by renewable and alternative energy sources, in compliance with Massachusetts RPS and APS requirements. Includes the required 12% from new renewable energy projects in New England (MA Class I RECs).
